Yasmin van Melle

Associate - Edge Deals Traineeship

Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

Nice to meet you! My name is Yasmin and I am 25 years old. After completing my studies in International Business at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, I started working as a Financial Controller. Still, the world of investments kept calling me. There was only one thing to do: A Master’s degree in Finance, which I completed at VU Amsterdam.

Furthermore, I am truly a family person. I often spent my spare time with my parents or one of my five brothers and sisters. I also recently started Pilates. I book these lessons via Class Pass, one of the benefits of working at PwC! Traveling is by far my biggest hobby, whether it is a city trip within Europe or a to another continent.

Meet Yasmin. A team-player, solver, optimistic and driven person.

How did you end up at PwC and what exactly do you do?

My enthusiasm for Mergers & Acquisitions grew during my Master’s in Finance at VU University Amsterdam. I was immediately enthusiastic when I learned about the Edge Traineeship. After a challenging, but very fun and valuable selection process, my journey as a Deals Trainee at PwC begun.'' 'I was immediately enthusiastic when I learned about the Edge Traineeship"

Why did you choose this position?

Within the Edge Traineeship you get the chance to get to know a large part of the Deals practice. In the two-year track you get the opportunity to rotate in four different departments every six months. This is a big plus for me as it allows me to explore which aspect of Deals suits me best.

What is your (study) background?

I have a Bachelor's degree in International Business and Business Administration, with which I graduated cum laude. After that I completed a Master of Finance.

What does your working day look like?

I start my day with a coffee at the Barista. Then I get to work: depending on the project, this often means working on stakeholder presentations, meetings with the team and contact with the customer. Furthermore, expert sessions are also held where investors can ask detailed questions to the relevant Due Diligence teams.

What do you like about your job?

Every project I do there is plenty to learn. The more projects I complete, the more improvements I notice in communication or due diligence and expand my knowledge about the relevant market. What I like most is the combination of the valuable experience you gain as well as the social aspect. We all have different competences within our team, but we work together towards a shared desired goal. Also very important: there is a really good atmosphere. I experience that there are so many possibilities in terms of contact with customers and business partners, which means that I am building an interesting network.

Who are you in your spare time?

I prefer to spend my free time with family. I have two pairs of parents and no fewer than five siblings. We meet regularly to have a nice dinner or play games. In addition, I live very cozy with my boyfriend and cat. With friends I regularly go to new restaurants and I enjoy making long trips with my mother (next stop: South Africa).

What is still on your bucket list?

To travel! I would like to go to Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico and Thailand. So I will be settled for the next few years.
