Elk nadeel heb zijn voordeel, ook in corona tijd. Tijdens de periode van de avondklok in maart 2021 wilde ik graag de molens bij Kinderdijk fotograferen zonder de gebruikelijke drukte van toeristen. Ik besloot dus laat in de middag te gaan en toen de zon onderging op die uitzonderlijk rustige avond, had ik het rijk helemaal alleen; ongebruikelijk voor zo’n icoon van het Nederlandse landschap. Bij het plannen van de foto’s die ik wilde nemen had ik juist gewacht op een dag waarbij er geen wolken zouden zijn waren omdat ik de molens graag in silouett wilde fotograferen met een diepblauwe achtergrond. Maar de bonus waarop ik niet mee gerekend had was dat het ook windstil was en de reflecties van de molens prachtig tot uiting kwamen in het water. Ik bleef plaatjes schieten zodat het echt donker werd en toen de lichten ook nog eens aangingen in de molens bleef ik opnieuw schieten, de rimpels van een bootje dat langs kwam maakte de reflecties zelfs nog wat levendiger. Tevreden met het resultaat ging ik terug naar mijn auto en stelde de navigatie in om terug te gaan. Pas toen kwam ik erachter dat de avondklok inmiddels al was ingegaan en dat ik illegaal nog een uur terug moest rijden naar huis. Met een boete, die ik gelukkig heb misgelopen, had ik gezien het resultaat goed kunnen leven.

I took this photo because the couple we see gave me a real feeling of joy when I saw them. The photo was taking on the day that the Covid restrictions were lifted largely (unfortunately for a short while) and for me they really resembled the feeling of joy that came with that. I took this photo because it touched me to see her dancing on the streets of Italy. When I look at the picture I see and in that moment could feel her “Freedom”! Dancing in and on the little streets of Italy again (but yet alone without the normal crowded tourism).
She seems so Worry free, really in the moment and blending in and exploring the world again, touched by the beautifull light. But still with a mask in her hand as a silent reminder of why the streets are empty and why our health and freedom are so precious and fragile.
The picture was taken during our 2 month road trip with the family and really descibed all our feelings as mentioned above in 1 picture but most of all the energy and fun we had together!
