Sakura Finetek Europe supplies cancer diagnostics products and consumables to private and public healthcare laboratories and medical centres across Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East. Not only is the speed and accuracy of establishing the diagnosis important for the patient and relatives, the rapid shipment of products and consumables to pathology laboratories is also vital.

What is the problem?

For Sakura, it is important that internal processes reflect the product range. Providing solutions for cancer diagnoses that are fast, accurate, reliable and highly automated means that internal systems must work with uniform criteria. However, the growth of regional business units from five to fifteen in ten years meant that the network of different internal systems also grew. Employees performed many processes manually. So Sakura needed to find a solution to better streamline its labour-intensive internal processes.

What is the solution?

The solution to standardise the processes in production, delivery and service within Sakura Finetek Europe was found in the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) end-to-end platform.

How did the process go?

Sakura chose PwC to help redesign the process framework and support the implementation process. As implementation partner, PwC was responsible for configuring all modules and developing the interfaces and reports. Besides being responsible for project management of the European business units, PwC also supported the organisation in change management and employee training.

And the result?

After PwC’s implementation, internal workflows were standardised, business processes simplified and service level agreements optimised. Business units are now better aligned and departments operate according to industry best practices, including improved sales forecasts. This has resulted in a better balance between supply and demand and a more flexible shipment of instruments to pathology laboratories. Furthermore, client information has been centralised thanks to the implementation of multiple modules within Oracle Cloud SCM. This has provided more accurate data input in Oracle and non-Oracle systems such as supply chain and field service solutions. The new system has also given Sakura’s sales staff a tool to simplify the quotation process.

Looking ahead to the future

The implementation of the Oracle Cloud Applications suite meant that Sakura Finetek gained the technological advantages required to be proactive and to meet diverse client needs. As the integrated suite continues to develop across the region, Sakura Finetek Europe is on track to achieve its goals. ‘The implementation of the Oracle end-to-end platform has given us the freedom to focus on innovation. Our aim is to enable pathology professionals to improve the accuracy and speed of cancer diagnoses,’ says Sakura Finetek Europe's president, Chris Koeman.
